The Perfect Effective

San Antonio, Texas – For the registers of history the 2004-2005 spurs might be defined as a team with a great balance between offense and defense and that despite having great values never lost its chemistry. Definitively it was one squad above just a team of players and a great union capable of overcome the adversity, the injury of a great defensive symbol like Camby and nothing less but a 7th game of a league final. That is what might be remembered about those spurs in the future, managed by the 2 times champion, Marcus.
And now, there is a new spur in San Antonio with new faces, new management and what is more, a new style of game not losing in terms of unification but appearing as a dominator or as the “perfect effective”. And the meaning of that new adjective for the Spurs involves a more efficient game either in shooting, passing and every other category.
Our starting 5 will always have the defense as main aim like it used to be in last season but the difference is that now we have a more offense-orientated game and not based on more possessions but better effectiveness. Mainly with Lewis and Manu we improved our perimeter and the circulation of the ball. If we can keep the same level of defense but improve the effectiveness on the offensive end we will certainly improve. I am pretty sure about that.” Answered Gregg Popovich during the last press conference hosted by the spurs organization.
All in all, it is safe to say that the spurs 2005-2006 have nothing to do with last year team but the desire for victory that might help them to continue the same big success.

A Young Contender

<img src="http://www.onlinesports.com/images/phf-aaeh018.gif" align="left">The main reason why champions are not forever is because stars don’t last forever. That’s why the spurs had been going though a transition lately in order to get much younger. Players like Arenas and Chandler give hope that there will be a future not so different from the present and the fact that most players of the team are under large contracts give much more security. It is true that the team might have a similar scenario like the one the Knicks used to have in terms of contract but this spurs squad worth every single dollar and everyone know it.
There is no prize without risks. I know the Spurs of last season were great but I also believe they could be better so the latest transactions might not only help for the future but also for the present. Although it is still uncertain what is going to happen with this team I must say I see a bright season to come. In my opinion we are the team to beat.” Said Douglas, the new spurs manager
Trades like the one of Camby for Manu also help to the cause since even though there are only 3 years of difference it helps for the near future. And Wallace and Biedrins had also been very important. Even though Gerald received a huge contract the expectations for the future highly increased. And that also applies to any other single case of the off-season. Going back to what Douglas said, there should be a bright destiny for the Spurs.

An Argentinian Heart

What else would be needed to define a great team but an Olympic gold medal after beating a dream team? Nothing really although the Argentinian team doesn’t even need a medal to be called a great team as they have a talented star in Manu and a great heart that can only give as a consequence good results. And if someone doesn’t believe that statement he should go and watch someone like Luis Scola fighting against bigger opponents on the low post and finally winning.
For the upcoming season 3 of those players that were on that Argentinian team will be part of the spurs 2005-2006 roster and their names are Emanuel Ginobili, Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino. Ginobili is not only well known in an international context but also in the NBA as one of the biggest stars around. Meanwhile, Delfino with one year of experience in the league and still 22 years old has to show his total potential and he will surely get a chance to prove himself if he stays healthy. Scola, at least but not worse, is expected to make a good impact in his first season after spending 5 years in Europe with the Tau Cerámica in which he was the star playing as a pf, taking care of the team offense specially on the low post and contributing on every single category of the game. He was drafted in 2002 but as consequence of his previous contract he wasn’t able to arrive at the NBA by that time. As Manu he was selected at a low pick but he is obviously much better than that and if it wasn’t because of his contractual situation another team would have picked him before but luckily for the Spurs that never happened.
This Spurs is the first team ever to have more than one Argentinian on its roster and there is no doubt they will be a great addition.

Duncan, The best or just a Finals MVP?

<img src="http://www.nba.com/media/spurs/duncan_140_050619.jpg" align="right">There are some basketball analysts that believe that what Timmy D showed during the league playoffs was enough to make him the best players of all but there are others that still have KG on top of their lists. Minnesota former manager, Dingclancy made recent declarations in which he pointed that the spurs success was only a merit of ex-general manager, Marcus and although what he said is not totally false no one should forget about the 38 points Duncan scored in the last game against Indiana.
I really don’t care what people think. For me it is enough to win a championship. If I have to choose between getting a ring or an MVP trophy I would always pick the first option because in my opinion the only way of becoming the best is by defeating the rest of the teams until you crown as the league champion and I don’t see how you can do that with an MVP award” responded Tim Duncan in relation to the recent declarations.
The only truth about the comparison between Duncan and Garnett is that one won the league and the Finals MVP and the other won the season MVP but besides that there is no more to be said. Also, it is certain that both San Antonio and Minnesota will be fighting for the championship as many others but if the Spurs finally repeat the title then maybe people might start respecting Duncan a bit more. Only time will say who is right but there will be a strong Spurs squad to face it and an enormous Duncan to lead that team.

> I know the next coach will be the right one - Lebron James

...No one saw it coming but this morning before Sixers game, Coach Mike Brown presented his resignation as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The exact reason wasn´t disclosed but all indicates there was a serious discussion of interests between him and the management for what they asked him to resign. By now, it is unknown if the ex-cavs coach will receive some monetary compensation but it is certain there is no coming back on his decision.
It is well known that General Manager Marcus is trying to find a solid structure for the future and the present in order to satisfy James demands for glory and titles and it seems Mike Brown didn't fit in those plans. With 36 years of age , 5 years as assistant coach and 1 year as head coach Brown has a lot to learn about the league and is still long way out from being a championship coach.

"I don´t think age matters at this point but we need a leader to take us to the next level. Mike Brown is a great coach but he was not the right guy for us. We are looking for a committed coach that believes and is willing to do everything for our project." Commented General Manager Marcus after the victory against Philadelphia in which Brown was not present.

<table align=left border=0 bgcolor=OrangeRed><tr><td>Posted Image</td></tr><tr><td>Adelman</td></tr></table>
Brown's replacement is yet to be determined but there are some names already been mentioned as possible candidates. Moreover, a reliable source commented that Rick Adelman might sign an official contract in the next couple of days; But also that there is another strong candidate whose name wasn't revealed. All in all, the new head coach should be announced soon as well as the reasons for Mike Brown´s departure. On the meantime Hank Egan will occupy the spot of interim head coach as he did versus Sixers.

John Stockton!

> Thank God he is back. - Charles Barkley for UBL TV

<table border=0 bgcolor=OrangeRed><tr><td>Posted Image</td></tr><tr><td>One of the smartest and purest point guards to ever play the game.</td></tr></table>
After a week full of tension that included Mike Brown´s Renouncement and two losses against Heat and Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers finally can relax.
Today, future Hall of Famer John Stockton signed a 1 year contract to coach the squad. Despite this being his first NBA experience as the man in charge of a team the management is confident he is more than prepared for the job.

"I wasn´t planning to start coaching at the moment because of my family but the deal Cavaliers management offered me was something I couldn´t turn down. Both, me and my wife felt very comfortable with the way they treated us and I am sure the support from the fans will make us feel like at home. Also, taking this team to the next level should not be an easy task but I am confident we can achieve great things and I am definitely ready for the challenge." Commented Stockton to the press after signing his official contract.
Stockton will take the team with a 10-6 record and a 3-4 streak after Dalembert-Williams deal. There is certainly a lot of work to do and it was reported that the Cavs are not yet finished trading.
The exact details of Stockton´s contract weren´t disclosed but it is known that it expires after one year. According to local reports John and General Manager Marcus agreed on a 1-year deal with the condition that if everything goes as expected they would extend it for 5 more years. Stockton wants his wife and sons to be happy and he will use this season to see if he can be a good coach and a good father at the same time.
As a player, Stockton holds the league historic records for most assists at 15,806 and most steals at 3,265 and impressive averages like 10.5 assists per game, 2.17 steals per game and .515 of FG %. Also, He was named 2 times for the All-NBA 1st team, 6 for the All-NBA 2nd team, 3 for the All-NBA 3rd team and 5 times for the NBA All-Defensive 2nd team. His whole career was defined by a smart, sacrificed and classy type of game that the Cavaliers management hopes to see in their team. One of Stockton´s pending achievements is to win a championship trophy; Both, he and the Cavaliers management expect that to change soon.

The truth behind Mike Brown Departure

<table align=right border=0 bgcolor=OrangeRed><tr><td>Posted Image</td></tr><tr><td>Brown out through the backdoor.</td></tr></table>
A week ago Brown sudden resignation was unexplainable but now it seems as if it was the right thing to do.
From the very beginning the relationship between GM Marcus and Coach Brown wasn´t very pleasant. Brown didn’t agree with his trading policy and the way in which he managed the club. But other than that, the differences between both were just points of view.
What really made Brown piss off was Dalembert-Williams trade. Mike loves defensive schemes and Samuel Dalembert was the main key of his system. Before the movement he requested to the management not to trade his big defensive center but his conditions were obviously not taken into consideration. Brown took that response not only as an insult to his person but to his coaching skills as well and at that moment he knew his days as Cavaliers coach were counted.

"It is true Brown requested to keep Dalembert but simultaneously Biedrins was giving an ultimatum on whether to play more or be traded. We had to take a decision and we decided in favor of our future plan. Mike could either accept it or not and he preferred not to." Explained General Manager Marcus in a private session with some local reporters.

Russian Answer

<table border=0 bgcolor=white><tr><td>-Breaking News-

Receive: Andrei Kirilenko, Sebastian Telfair, Kendrick Perkins, Brian Skinner and Viktor Khryapa.</td></tr></table>
> AK is the missing piece of the puzzle. - ESPN.com
> The Cavaliers overpaid Kirilenko for no reason and put their leadership into risk. - UBL TV

<table border=0 bgcolor=OrangeRed><tr><td>Posted Image</td></tr><tr><td>Few players can steal and block like AK.</td></tr></table>
For John Stockton it seems like yesterday when he was still playing for the Utah Jazz. And from 2001 till his retirement in 2003 he was able to witness Andrei Kirilenko´s impressive first steps in the league. With high intensity and superb defense he proved to be a star on the rise. And now after 5 years, he is one of the best defenders in the world.
Since his retirement Cavaliers Coach never missed a single jazz game on TV and he always have kept a strong look on Andrei. Furthermore, Stockton's first demand to the management was to make a strong push to obtain the Jazz Star.

" I believe we have most of the things needed for victory but we still lack inside scoring and some extra defense. Based on this I see Kirilenko as the perfect fit for our system. I know him and I am confident he is who we need. " Wrote John in an inside report sent to the management.
Consequently, General Manager Marcus started negotiating with the Utah Jazz and after some long and hard talks both sides reached an agreement. The official deal also involved Celtics, Nets and Sonics and was officially approved today. Andre Iguodala, Deron Williams and Andris Biedrins had to be sacrificed in order to make things work but the management trusts Stockton´s point of view. Moreover, the trade also got Sebastian Telfair who possesses most of the skills Stockton likes for a pg.
Statically Andrei Kirilenko averages 19.4 Points, 10.0 Rebounds , 3.2 Assists , 1.72 Steals and 2.5 Blocks in 18 games and Sebastian Telfair 13.9 Points , 2 Rebounds , 5.7 Assists , 1.25 Steals and 0.3 Blocks in 20 games.

" We knew getting Andrei wasn't going to be easy but we were willing to send as much as needed to satisfy John´s demands. With him everyone senses that we are going in the right direction." Commented General Manager Marcus about the trade.

All in all, this major deal and the 4-1 victorious beginning could lead towards thinking that Stockton is staying for a long and successful run in Cleveland.
