Day 15 - The Great Prairie It's been a few days since we arrived at this place, and I think it's the first time that I ever went on a mission separately from the group. As expected, I met several new people here - all of them are VOC members. I have to apologize, that my memory is not as good as the Captain, therefore some parts might be a bit blurry or I may even forgot to write down a couple of things. First of all, the other members that I met in this mission. - Ephream Este - I have a feeling that we're the same type of combatant, although he's probably a bit stronger than I am. - Gin Seng - looks like to be capable in fighting using combine with melee skills. - Kraal - looks like capable to be fighting using magic combine with sheer power. - Solmefreyr - her name was a bit too hard to pronounce, therefore she asked me to just call her as Freyja. Seems to capable in fighting using her Halberd, although I think she is also capable in using some magic. - V - from Traveling Troupe Tee. Quick, like very very quick. I cannot hope to match her speed even if I tried my very best. Seems to be capable in using magic combine with the sword skills. - Lilla - from Hollundie Teutonica Corps. She introduced herself to us as a recruit from the said group. She also said that she was a duelist, capable of fighting with two rapiers at the same time. For the mission, it was Lilla who offered us. It was to fight against the Orcs - who attacked the hamlets around once in a while. Nonetheless, Orcs are Orcs. I think, everywhere they are always causing troubles and such. We accepted the mission and so it then began. The first wave of Orcs that we met, I'm not sure it can be said as wave as there was only one of them in the beginning, happened to have Orc and some wolves. I tried to attack the wolf, but I guess I still have too much mercy for them, and my attack then missed. Which proved to be a mistake. They didn't hesitate to attack me, and in fact managed to hurt me quite a bit. Kraal, who was also attacked by the wolves as well, fell down. I have to be honest, but I never thought wolves could hurt us so bad like this. But no time to regret, and in the next moment, I managed to kill one of the wolves. At this point, only the Orc left standing, and V managed to kill it in one swift move. I have to say that I admired her movement. So quick, and swift, I don't think I would be able to do it. But, I guess, everyone has their own strength in the battlefield. The next wave of Orcs came next. And this time, there were more of them than the last time. We scrambled into position, and then the next battle started. Everyone demonstrated their abilities, although there was one particular moment that I just cannot forget. Gin Seng tried to attack one of the Orcs with his staff, but somehow, he managed to hit the Orc... and himself in the same attack. I'm not sure how that happened, but it happened. I can only imagined how hurt his thigh must've been. But in the end, he managed to kill the Orc, so I guess all in all, it turned out fine. As for myself, I didn't manage to kill any Orcs, I think I still have much to improve. As we moved on to the next place, alarmed by the appearance of smoke from afar, we were greeted with more Orcs. And there was one Orc that stood out in particular. He called himself 'Gruum', and he held Lilla at his mercy, although he didn't kill her - simply said that Lilla was not worthy to be killed. And then he simply left, running away. I have to say, at this point, it was a bit difficult for me to keep my emotion at bay. But I know, it won't do any good if I lost control in the battlefield. And then, the next battle commenced. I was a bit too slow in my reaction, and the Orcs managed to hit me with their javelins. Kraal then used his ability, some kind of magic, I didn't understand what it was - but it was effective in pushing back the Orcs. Ephream shouted some sort of a rallying cry, really reminded me of what Colonel Brandia used to say back then, and then he managed to kill the Orcs. Simply superb. V then did her usual swift movement, and managed to kill one of the Orcs. I had a feeling that something else happened, but I was too focus on the battle back then to even noticing it. Soon, there was only one Orc left, but Gin Seng surprised as all by flicking a stone to the Orcs. I'm not sure what he used... but it was very very effective. We secured our surroundings and some of the Orcs that were knocked unconscious - thankfully no one was dead, some hurt yes, but no death toll. We returned back to the village, and was treated with local delicacy (I have to say, that I'm a bit surprised that they mostly eat rice here, so different than what we used to eat in Hvaast - Lilla was having a moment of... confusion, if that's even the right word. And also, she was feeling down - due to the comment said by Gruum back then. I told her that it was better not to think much of what the Orc said. I wasn't sure if that's enough, but she said afterwards that she needed to get better and improve herself. I left them after that, and began to write on my journal book here. All in all, it was a good experience. I learned quite a lot from the battle, and I'm sure I can improve myself even better. The Orcs were basically the same kind of Orcs that we used to fight back in Hvaast. Fierce, and looked down on us. I was glad that we managed to shut them up. And perhaps it was because I haven't fought them for quite a while, I basically became a bit awkward when fighting them again. I believe with enough practice, I should be back to my usual condition and shape. No more that I can comment on, at least from what I can remember. Day 18 - The Great Prairie Another days when I went on a separate mission from the group. I met a couple of new people here - VOC members of course. - Alexander: It seems he knew a thing or two about being in a military. I have a feeling that he's quite smart, I'm not sure if he's as smart as the Captain though. - Hertha Lagrange: from Hollundie Teutonica Corps, the same group as Lilla that I met a couple of days ago. She said she was a fencer. - Joshua Zeon: from Cult of Urdr's Living Thundr. A religious type, from what I can see. - Kei: from Traveling Troupe Tee, the same group as V. It seems V said something or two about me - since she commented that I was good with sword. A bit flirty as well, from what I can see. - Richard: from Golden Axe Guild. To be honest, I don't think we actually introduce ourselves, but I overheard about his name and affiliation when he told someone else about it. And if I could be honest, this man kind of struck me as impolite. But I'm going to hold off any further impression until I get to know him a bit better. The mission was actually quite simple. Disrupting Goblinoids movement. I never met a Goblinoid before, so this would be my first experience in facing them. However it seemed the others already faced them before, so it wasn't like all of us going into the battle not knowing what we would face. However, Kei mentioned something about Hobgoblin, presumably a variant of Goblinoids. Alexander said Hobgoblin were stronger and fiercer than the usual Goblins. Joshua also said that Hobgoblin appeared to be smarter than the Goblins. It looked like we would need to come up with some kind of strategy. After some discussion, we didn't really came up with anything. But we did know that we must not let ourselves got flanked or surrounded. I was a bit ashamed that I couldn't came up with anything. Not only I never met Goblins before, so I can't really analyzed the situation based on what they could do, I'm also not as smart as Captain and Boss when it came to strategy. As we got into the battlefield, each of us split into actions. I was in charge of acting as a vanguard, trying to hold the Goblins at bay while killing them at once. Richard led the group at the front, while trying (as I believed) to destroy their morale and put some intimidation to them. Joshua was using some kind of magic to break up their front formation, and I have to say it was very effective. Alexander was giving some sort of command to the others, which gave us a huge help in positioning; while Hertha tried to flank them to caught them in surprised, which worked really well. We managed to break the formation of the Goblins, and ended up facing with what I think as their leaders. As there were only two of them, we managed to corner pretty quick, but then the unexpected happened. Seeing that we managed to almost routed them out, the leader - the Hobgoblin - sliced its own arteries. I thought it was a suicide of some sort, but then it disappeared and out of nowhere... something showed up next to me. Joshua managed to identify its feature, and concluded it was a Fiend, or a Devil to be more precise. Richard appeared to have face against a similar back then as well. The battle then commenced between us and this so-called Devil. It had quite a strange feature. It had some sort of spiky beards on its face, with a tail on its back. Everything about this creature didn't show anything normal. There was its Glaive - its weapon - but I guess that was it. I never encountered a Fiend before, let alone a Devil, so it was quite a shock and challenge for me at the same time. When I tried to hit it, somehow I felt my attack was not as effective as it used to be. Fortunately, Alexander managed to take it down before it can caused us more troubles. After that, we regrouped with the others, and it seemed Kei and her group also faced a Fiend and some of them were badly injured. Alexander and Joshua used their magic to treat the wounded, and fortunately there wasn't any death. As we took care of the wounded, I used my chance to talk with Alexander because something that he said earlier actually caught my interest. He appeared to have some sort of experience or involved with the military, but when I asked him about that, he simply stated that he was a drop out from the so-called Knight Monastery. It was the first time I ever heard about that kind of things, as I'm pretty sure we didn't have that back at Hvaast. Perhaps he learned a thing or two about military and such from the Monastery, although I can't really say for sure. As we returned, Hertha approached me and asked me about my left eye and the eye-patch. I told her some story about what happened, although not exactly in detail. The others started to have some drinks, but I excused myself to take some rest. And I guess that's all what happened. I may have missed a couple of things, but I don't have any way to make sure of that. Gracia Priscilla Lauenbarn Player's Knowledge - Beware
