Though Kpop fans not familiar to 소녀시대 are lead to believe that the nine girl group is a composed of plastic girls, they’ve actually proven themselves this time. They are currently holding the number two spot in Korea’s album sales at over 50,000. That’s pretty impressive considering their debut was only in August of this 2007; especially after multiple mixed reviews at the start of their career. Though Super Junior’s is number one, 소녀시대 is the highest selling album for November.
Don’t let the cover fool you into thinking that this is their all-around look, for their album concept was ironically “Barbie dolls”. Their self titled debut album is “Girls’Generation” was released on 2007/12/01. Before this, their debut single, “INTO THE NEW WORLD” (featuring the last two songs on the album and a third one that was not included) also did well.
If you’re looking for ballads or dramatic and sad lyrics, this isn’t your album. But if you’re looking to get back to the old days, when you listened to that teenage pop singing about love, then this is much recommended. Either way, this album has a happy feeling with a touch of encouragement.

Tracklist:
1) So Nyuh Shi Dae (Girls’ Generation) - Originally ballad king, Lee Seung Chul’s song, the girls remade it with their own poppy touch. Pretty clever since the girls’ first single was also about females putting a name for them selves into the world, now this song emphasizes that it’s the girls’ turn to shine. Call it a feministic, but it is a power song.

2) Ooh-La-La! - Remember those old school happy pop songs about love? 소녀시대 brings back that feeling with the flow of the song. Sort of metaphorically taking on the fairy tale story of abused stepdaughter, the song talks about waiting for her prince (which she knows exists) and waits for him so she can be his princess. Though young, she dreams of love.

3) Baby Baby - Starting off with a jazzy piano and leading back to the sweet pop, is another song about love. This time talking about a girl nervous to share her feelings and just wants to be loved. The song gives opportunity to hear the angelic side of their voices.

4) Complete - Finally, a slow song. Not necessarily a ballad, but slower than their many fast paced songs. Though it’s not a break up song, it’s actually a song remembering moments and thanking their lover for being there and making them complete. Maybe their prince finally came?

5) Kissing You - starring Donghae of the kpop group SUPER JUNIOR!!! Now, back to the bubble gum pop about sweet kisses~ Wow, these girls really are innocent! starring Donghae of the kpop group SUPER JUNIOR!!!

6) Merry-go-round - This song is filmed with angelic harmony, toning down the bubble gum pop to some extent. The song, written in story form, from a young love still together. “he’s like a merry-go-round”

7) Tears - Back to the slow paced and serious song. Song is about a girl who has loved a boy, who now loves someone else. Too late for her, and too late for the boy once he found out. But of course, Koreans being the ever so dramatic, she wants him to be happy and tells him not to worry; and when ready, she’s always there. This song was overpowered by the lead vocalists

8) Tinkerbell - Filled once again with angelic harmonies, is about a girl who feels better when her man is there with he and in turn, she’ll be his charm, or his “tinkerbell”r. This time, more of the back up singers sang (FINALLY!).

9) 7989 - Featuring KANGTA. Slow paced and only the leader (also the lead vocalist) sings sings in this song. And I have no clue what it’s about.

10) Honey - Originally titled “Perfect for You”, this song is VERY catchy. The title itself is pretty explanatory and it’s filled with catchy angelic voices. Just listen to it, and you’ll start singing along in no time.

11) Dashi Mannan Segye (Into the new World) – Their debut song is about girls hoping to make the world a better place. It can be portrayed as an encouraging song to do better and strive for what’s right or it can be interpreted as another love song.
